School Visitor Protocol

All visitors must first report to the campus main office. This shall apply to parents, volunteers, social service workers, invited speakers, maintenance and repair persons not employed by the District, vendors, representatives of the news media, former students, and any other visitors.

Alto ISD requires visitors to show identification and wear visitor's badge while on any campus. The district utilizes an electronic system which requires a visitor to provide his/her driver's license, which is then run through a public data base of the sex offender registry and used to print a photo ID badge to use while the visitor is on campus.

Any individuals permitted to proceed beyond the reception area must follow all safety and campus protocols.  Visits to individual classrooms during instructional time shall be permitted only with the principal's and teacher's approval, and such visits shall not be permitted if their duration or frequency interferes with the delivery of instruction or disrupts the normal classroom environment.

All entrances will be locked immediately after arrival times and remain that way throughout the day to help ensure effective management and safe screening.

If visitors have COVID-19 or other communicable diseases, they must remain off campus until they meet the criteria for re-entry.

Staff members are responsible for helping district and campus administration enforce visitor guidelines by escorting any unauthorized visitors to the primary entrance/office.

The District has the right to refuse entry to or eject a person from property under the District’s control if the person refuses to leave peaceably upon request and:

1. The individual poses a substantial risk of harm to any person; or

2. The individual continues to behave in a manner inappropriate for the school setting after having received a verbal or written warning to cease the inappropriate behavior.

A person ejected from or refused entry to District property under this provision may appeal this action by filing an appeal under FNG(LOCAL) or GF(LOCAL).
